The Types of Load Cells

Single Ended or Shear beam load cell- Designed for low profile scales and process applications. Come in two common sizes LE- large envelop or SE- small envelop. Most models in the market are now NTEP approved for capacities from 1000 to 10,000 lb as they are very often used in the shipping industry for freight scales. Non- NTEP are also available and range from 250 to 20,000 lb. Most are alloy of stainless steel material

Single Point- Design to be used as a single unit for bench and base scales. It is designed for very low profile scales as it cannot reach capacities higher than around 3,000 lb as standard. This type of load cell can come in many shape sizes and materials, although most are made of aluminum for light weight scales, many are also stainless steel.

Double Ended Beam- Designed mostly for tanks and hoppers application, its whole structure is strong and rugged. The materials used for this load cell can be resistant to even the most hostile environments, providing durability, accuracy, high capacity process measurements and control.

S Type Tension Load Cells- Designed for scale conversions, tension applications and general purpose weighing. They can be designed for high capacities reaching up to 20,000 lb. One of the most commonly used load cell in the market, which can be found in alloy and stainless steel materials.

Columns Type- Designed mostly for truck scales and deck platforms, this load cell is designed to support extremely large capacities reaching up to 200 T. The load cell is also known as a compression. One of the most revolutionary load cell to be designed was the Mettler Toledo Digital which was one of the first digital load cells introduced in the market, since the other like HBM and Fairbanks have followed in the implementation of this design.
